Les Pine Box Boys nous chantent des jolies balades qui ont toutes comme
sujet l'un ou l'autre meurtre sanglant, des fantômes et d'autres mystères
horribles, le tout chanté avec bonne humeur. Ils se plaisent à nommer leur
style "Uncut Southern Horrorbilly".
Ils s'inscrivent dans la digne lignée des "murder ballads", à l'instar de la
chanteuse américaine Gillian Welch (http://www.gillianwelch.com) qui,
accompagnée à la guitare, expose dans sa chanson "Caleb Meyer" comment elle fait passer son homme dans l'autre monde…
Le genre est très vieux, amené par les colons anglais aux Etats-Unis. Une
différence intéressante : dans la version anglaise, l’assassin restait
généralement impuni et repartait pour de nouvelles aventures. S’il éprouvait
parfois du remord, il goûtait rarement l’amertume du gibet. Dans la variante
du nouveau monde, morale oblige, le meurtrier, dont on continue à ignorer ce
qui motive son geste, ne peut échapper à son destin et se retrouve face au
juge, qu’ils soit terrestre ou divin...
Parmi les autres représentants plus anciens du genre, citons les Louvin
Brothers, avec notamment leur hit "Knoxville Girl", ou encore et surtout le
légendaire Doc Watson, véritable anthologie vivante du folk américain, avec,
entre autres, "The Lawson Family Murder" ou "Banks Of The Ohio". Et, plus
près de nous, Nick Cave s’est aussi adonné à ce style meurtrier…

Pine Box Boys a été fondé par Lester T. Raww, originaire d’Arkansas. Les
autres membres faisaient partie de la scène de San Francisco (Riptopolis,
Salvation Air Force, Kill The Robots). Leur musique est un mélange de
Americana et de Bluegrass. Les mélodies sont entraînantes, la voix du
chanteur est soutenue par la guitare, le banjo, la contrebasse et la
batterie.
Au mois de mars 2005, les Pine Box Boys sortaient l'excellent ARKANSAS
KILLING TIME (Trash Fish Entertainment Corp.), pas encore distribué en
Belgique. Une œuvre à la gloire d’assassins et de leurs actes. Ils trainent
le sac sanguinolant de leur répertoire dans les hautes herbes du Bluegrass.
Toutes les compositions sont originales. Leur site internet vous permettra
de déguster quelques fraîcheurs : "Just A Crush", "I Had To Cut Her", and
"Beauty In Her Face".

Sivan Perwer is widely recognized as the foremost singer among the Kurds today. The hypnotic rhythms of his songs and his beautiful vibrating voice will hypnotize you as he sings traditional Kurdish songs of love, war, heroism, and longing for a homeland free from persecution. His extraordinary ability to express his passion and activism through music has resulted in the Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish governments' placing a ban on his music. Sivan has recorded 20 albums and continues to be a voice for the Kurdish people. Sivan Perwer was born between Diyarbakir and Urfa, Turkish Kurdistan in 1955. His birthplace was full of musical activity. His father was a great Kurdish flute player and his older brother was influential as a singer. His childhood was full of musical gatherings, dances, and festivities. By the time he was in high school people were asking him to make records. At that time this was not in his mind; he was involved with furthering his studies to help his Kurdish people. Besides, recordings could only be done in Turkish, not in his native language Kurdish. From 1975 on he became a protest singer. He has become the best known Kurdish musician in the world, accompanying himself on the tanbur, Kurdish 3-course lute. Sivan Perwer is also a highly accomplished composer.At this time he has recorded over 30 cassettes, records, numerous CDs, film and video music. He has become a teacher and inspiration for many Kurdish singers; but especially for his son. By now Sivan Perwer has become a living legend, giving performances all over the world, participating in solidarity concerts, crossing continents with multi-cultural events. Spanning the range from traditional to folk, from classical to protest songs to songs of freedom and friendship, in various Kurdish dialects. He sings of love and peace despite the fact that he can not go back to his homeland since the day he left his country in 1976. His land is a forbidden land and he's a forbidden man.

Al bijna dertig jaar leeft hij in ballingschap, ver van Turks Koerdistan waar hij is geboren en getogen. Zijn verplichte vertrek kwam er omdat hij het waagde in zijn taal te zingen: het Koerdisch.

Na een dertigtal albums, waarvan een aantal nog steeds verboden zijn in Turkije is Sivan Perwer meer dan ooit het boegbeeld van de Koerdische cultuur.

Er is geen Koerd die hem niet kent, eerbiedigt en bewondert.

In een land waar de Koerdische taal en cultuur jarenlang monddood werden gemaakt, geven zijn liederen het Koerdische volk hoop op een betere toekomst.

Vele landgenoten van Sivan Perwer hebben de kennis van hun taal en traditie aan zijn liederen te danken.

Zijn repertoire bestaat zowel uit traditionele liederen als uit liederen met eigentijdse thema’s.

Centraal staat altijd het verlangen naar de erkenning van het Koerdische volk, maar Sivan Perwer roept nooit op tot geweld.

Voor de westerse wereld is het moeilijk te begrijpen wat Sivan Perwer voor zijn landgenoten betekent. Hij is één van de belangrijkste culturele vertegenwoordigers van het Koerdische volk, terwijl de meeste Koerden hem nooit hebben zien spelen in zijn vaderland.

Hij zet de eeuwenlange Koerdische bardentraditie voort. Zijn mooie en krachtige stem en zijn natuurlijke charisma maken van hem een heel aparte figuur, het idool van miljoenen Koerden.

Sivan Perwer heeft onlangs het album "Min Bêriya te Kiriye" uitgebracht op het label Daqui.

Il y a près de trente ans que Sivan Perwer a quitté sa terre natale d'Urfa, dans le Kurdistan turc. Et ce départ n'est pas le fruit de sa décision, c'est un exil dû à un seul fait : Sivan Perwer chante en kurde. Aujourd'hui, avec une trentaine d'albums à son actif, dont une partie toujours interdits en Turquie, Sivan Perwer apparaît plus que jamais comme l'icône de la culture kurde. Il ne se trouve pas un Kurde qui ne le connaisse, le respecte, l'admire. Dans un pays où, pendant bien longtemps, la langue et la culture kurdes ont été étouffées — pas de publications, pas de médias, pas de scolarité, pas d'expression artistique — les chansons de Sivan Perwer ont toujours un parfum de terre promise. Beaucoup de compatriotes de Sivan Perwer ont maintenu la connaissance de leur langue et de leur patrimoine historique et littéraire à travers ses chansons, qui ont toujours continué à circuler "en dessous du manteau". Son répertoire visite tantôt les traditionnels, aborde à d'autres moments des thèmes plus contemporains liés aux désirs de reconnaissance du peuple kurde, mais ne sombrent jamais dans l'appel à la violence…Il est difficile pour nous d'imaginer ce que représente Sivan Perwer pour ses compatriotes. Il est réellement le porte-étendard culturel d'un peuple, un peuple qui n'a jamais pu le voir en concert sur ses terres…Artistiquement, Sivan Perwer est aussi un grand Monsieur. Il perpétue la tradition des bardes kurdes, aidant au transfert entre les générations d'un patrimoine littéraire oral, tout en y ajoutant sa personnalité. In 1998, three of the Cuvelier brothers were working in their little family brewery on the outskirts of the southwestern bayous. They suddenly realized that the songs played on the radio had a clear resemblance with their original compositions that they used to play at the Saturday evening village dance or at the Sunday morning Mass. We gaan terug naar 1998, toen drie van de Cuvelier neven in de kleine familiestokerij wrkten, ergens weggestoken in het verste hoekje van de zuidwestelijke bayous. Daar komen ze , bij het beluisteren van hun piepkleine radio , tot de vaststelling dat de gedraaide nummers verdacht veel lijken op de liedjes die zij zelf samen spelen, tijdens het wekelijks bal op zaterdagen of zondag’s tijdens de kerkdienst. C’est en 1998, alors qu’ils travaillaient dans la petite distillerie familiale cachée au fond des bayous du sud-ouest , que trois des cousins Cuvelier s’aperçoivent, en écoutant le minuscule poste de radio tronant dans le salon, que les chansons diffusées ressemblent étrangement à celles qu’ils jouent ensembles le samedi soir lors du bal hebdomadaire et le dimanche matin, pendant l’office. Boogietown Festival: The Story

Boogietown vous propose des groupes dans différents genres: blues, rock,hillbilly et world.Boogietown vertegenwoordigt verschillende groepen , zowel blues als rock en wereld muziek. Daarbuiten zijn we ook actief in andere domeinen zoals het organiseren van concerten. Nous sommes également actifs dans l'organisation de concerts.

THE BOOGIETOWN FESTIVAL STORY

Après une dizaine d'éditions du Boogie Town festival à Louvain-la-Neuve, l'équipe organisatrice a décidé de mettre un terme à l'aventure.
L'esprit Boogie Town continue à vivre dans la programmation de l'ASBL Philorock, de son agence artistique et de ses coproductions avec divers salles du pays.
En septembre 2004 un nouveau festival a été créé à Lessines, le Highway to Hills avec Tony Joe White, Triggerfinger,Dirtbombs.

Na een tiental succesvolle edities , heeft de organisatie van het Boogie Town festival beslist om er een punt achter te zetten. De geest van Boogie Town festival blijft verder leven in het kader van de programmatie van CC Lessines (onlangs hadden we nog Canned Heat in het CC van Lessines) en in sommige co-producties met andere zalen.
In september 2004 heeft een nieuw festival het daglicht gezien in Lessines, het Highway to hills festival, met Tony Joe White, Dirtbombs, Triggerfinger.
